The Construction of the Outdoor Kitchen for Action in Africa (AIA) in Nakuwade, Bulenga, Wakiso District, is a specialized support facility developed to enhance AIA’s operational and community programs in Uganda. The project was designed to provide a functional, hygienic, and durable cooking space capable of supporting large-scale food preparation for community activities, training programs, and institutional use. The project design was led by Mass Design Group, based at Kigali Heights, Plot 772, KG 7 Avenue, Kacyiru, Kigali, Rwanda, whose human-centered and context-responsive approach informed the overall planning and functionality of the facility. The design prioritizes efficiency, safety, and environmental responsiveness, ensuring the outdoor kitchen is well-ventilated, easy to maintain, and suitable for high-usage demands. Design Garage Studio served as the Local Architects, supporting design coordination and ensuring compliance with local building regulations and site-specific requirements.

Spencer Engineers Ltd was engaged as the Main Contractor, responsible for the execution of all construction works. The scope of works included site preparation, foundations, structural works, roofing, finishes, and installation of essential services required for kitchen operations. Particular attention was given to structural durability, proper drainage, and the use of materials suitable for an outdoor food preparation environment. The project was developed for Action in Africa (AIA) Uganda, the client, with the objective of strengthening its capacity to support community feeding programs and institutional activities. Close collaboration between the client, consultants, architects, and contractor ensured that the facility met functional needs, hygiene standards, and long-term sustainability goals. . Overall, the Outdoor Kitchen project represents a practical and impactful development that supports AIA’s mission while demonstrating Spencer Engineers Ltd’s capability to deliver purpose-driven infrastructure through coordinated engineering, quality construction, and professional project management.
